What I do – Large group business design

Business prototyping in a large group

The answer to the problem of competitive potential lost in the concept development cycle lies in getting a venture’s value constellation engaged in prototyping a whole business activity, early. A large-group process for between 30 up to 100 people lasting from one to three days makes that possible. With the focus of a good concept, prototyping creatively organizes the interaction of a group in bringing the concept to life.

Managing large group process

Methods of managing large group interactions for dealing with complex business and social problems has beeen developing from the middle of the last century. While many of those methods have been foused on getting consensus, a number have been applied to the design process, particularly in software development in which it has been important to capture the myriad requirements of users and align development teams. The same principles can be applied to business design.

Expanding the idea-shed

Large-group prototyping at the early stage of a venture expands the “idea-shead” for the critical early stages of concept to product development. Having the vantage points of customer, supplier, designer, manufacturer and marketing in on the process of prototyping early concepts develops good concepts into better product concepts and leaves the venture with a a whole business.

The progression does not take months. In one to three day sessions the participants work out the answers to these questions in a series of in-depth assignments, working with each other in teams.
